Animal Internship Programs

Austin Zoo’s Internship Program is intended to give individuals the opportunity to have a comprehensive working experience in our Zoo profession. Our program offers interns the opportunity to learn about the operations of a modern zoo, animal care and to obtain some basic entry-level experience.

We offer two internship positions for Spring, Summer and Fall each year. For each time period, we require an absolute minimum of 192 hours of work. During the program, interns will work with our Zookeepers 8 hours per day, 4 days per week in 5 of the 7 areas throughout our Zoo. Each week of the program focuses on a different area. The internship concludes with a project week. Internship hours will vary weekly between 7:30am-4:00pm and 9:30am-6:00pm depending on which area of the Zoo the intern is working.

You must be 18 years of age or older to apply for an intern position. Preference will be given to internship applicants enrolled in a college science course in which an internship is required.

All intern positions are unpaid.
