Want an up-close-and-personal animal encounter? We offer private experiences for small groups, along with a zoo staff member from the education department who will introduce you to the ambassador animals, tell you about their species, and answer questions. It’s a great learning experience, and perfect for families!

Capybara private encounters

Capybara Encounters

Private Capybara Encounters are available Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 12:00pm, with only one encounter booked per day. Cost is $60/person.

Galapagos Tortoise encounters

Galapagos Tortoise Encounters

Tortoise Encounters are available Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 11:00am (or 1 PM on cold-temp days), with only one encounter booked per day. Cost is $25/person.

Hop aboard our train when you visit our Zoo! Our train operates until 4:00pm on week days and 5:00pm on weekends. You may purchase your tickets at the train station. Our train operates everyday unless we experience inclement weather. To book a birthday party or field trip train ride, please call the following number: 512-788-5282

Tickets are $5.00 plus tax, purchased at the Train Depot.

Things to Remember When Visiting Austin Zoo

Austin Zoo is a 501(c)(3) registered non-profit organization.

The zoo trails are made of crushed granite gravel. It is best to wear closed-toed, comfortable walking shoes.

Austin Zoo does not have water fountains. You are welcome to bring your own beverages, as well as food. We also offer bottled water in our Gift Shop for purchase.

Parking is free of charge. Please do not leave valuable items in your vehicle.

No live animals of any kind may be brought onto Zoo grounds or left in a vehicle in the parking lot. Only Service Animals are permitted on Austin Zoo grounds.

Austin Zoo is a non-smoking facility. Please return to our parking lots if you need to smoke.

No unaccompanied minors, please. Guests under age 18 must have adult supervision.

Animal feed for our sheep, deer, goats, llamas and alpacas is available for sale in our Feeding Area.

Zoo admission may be paid by Mastercard, Visa, American Express, Discover or cash. Buy tickets online or at the door.

No Shirt! No Shoes! No Service!

If you are purchasing admission through a third party, please be sure to read all restrictions and fine print.

Important disclosure: Some of the animals may not always be viewable in their habitats. As a rescue zoo, our first priority at Austin Zoo is the comfort & contentment of our animals in residence. We do not force our animals into their outside habitats for spectators. Animals can choose at any time to be in their inside den areas if desired. No refunds for tickets will be provided.

If you must cancel, 50% of the venue fee will be refunded if you cancel at anytime up to 14 days prior to your event date. No refunds will be given within 14 days of your event date.
