Austin Zoo provides a much needed home for animals who have been rescued, surrendered by or confiscated from owners who can no longer care for them. In addition, our Zoo serves the Austin and Central Texas community by providing an outstanding recreational and learning experience in a pleasant environment. The contributions of volunteers are critical to our success.
Volunteer duties include the following:
• Cleaning our hoof stock area habitats. Our hoof stock includes sheep, deer, goats, llamas, alpacas, longhorns, and pigs. Duties include shoveling/raking animal waste and hay into the trash cans, pulling trash cans to and from each habitat (approximately 6 areas)
• Walking the Zoo and parking lots to pick up pieces of trash.
• Laundry room: Washing blankets and towels, folding what is completed in the dryers.
• Gift shop: Occasionally the gift shop may need some support. If all priority duties are completed, volunteers may check in with the gift shop staff to see if support is needed
• Volunteer shifts are available seven days a week. A volunteer is assigned a weekly (or bi-weekly) shift based on their availability. The volunteer shifts are from 9:00 am to 11:30 am and 11:30 am – 2:00 pm.
Volunteers will not work with the animals directly.
