Guest Relations Associate

Austin Zoo is seeking to hire an outgoing, energetic, hard working individual to work in our Gift Shop as a cashier. We are a non-smoking workplace.

Full and Part-Time positions available.

 

Position Requirements (requires at least one year of experience):

  • Provide world class guest relations in a busy, vibrant environment.
  • Operating credit card terminal
  • Handling cash
  • Providing visitors with information and assistance
  • Greeting all visitors upon entering the zoo
  • Assisting visitors with rentals as needed
  • Cleaning rented items when returned by visitors
  • Retail experience preferred
  • Position includes indoor and outdoor work in all types of weather conditions

Individuals must meet the following requirements:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Able to lift 50 pounds
  • Possess a valid Texas driver’s license

Full Time Facilities Assistant/Groundskeeper

Austin Zoo is currently hiring for a full-time Facilities Assistant and Groundskeeper. This position covers a wide variety of tasks and will occasionally include working weekends, holidays and evening hours. We are a non-smoking workplace.
Description of Work:
  • Assisting with daily maintenance of facilities and grounds
  • Janitorial duties 
  • Occasionally running errands on behalf of the Zoo
  • Trash pick up and hauling
  • Working primarily out-of-doors
  • Groundskeeping
  • Interacting with Zoo visitors in an informal setting
  • Working with a dynamic team in a fast-paced environment
Qualifications:
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years experience in a maintenance and/or grounds keeping field position
  • Applicants must have and maintain a clean driving record
  • Possess basic skills including safely climbing ladders and operating common power tools such as table saw, circular saws, lawn equipment, etc.
  • Able to lift 50 pounds, work outdoors and demonstrate excellent time management

Austin Zoo Summer Camp Counselor Position Posting

Austin Zoo is currently recruiting three Zoo Camp Counselors for the 2020 summer season. The Zoo Camp Counselors are responsible for leading campers, ages 6-12, in inquiry-based learning activities, crafts, games, encounters with animal ambassadors and zoo tours. We are a non-smoking workplace.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Enthusiastically engage campers in inquiry-based activities, crafts, and zoo tours
  • Ensure the safety of all Zoo Campers by enforcing Zoo Camp rules
  • Demonstrate & encourage respect of Zoo exhibit animals & animal ambassadors during Zoo tours & animal encounters
  • Maintain Zoo Camp behavioral expectations with campers to ensure a fun, safe and inclusive environment for campers of all abilities
  • Build and maintain a good rapport with campers and parents
  • Assist with daily clean-up and continual organization of Zoo Camp classroom and supplies
  • Assist with camp curriculum development
  • Other duties as assigned
CRITERIA:

Experience and Education:

A minimum of one year of experience working with children. Completion or pursuit of a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Biology, Zoology, or related field from an accredited college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous summer camp experience strongly desired.

Skills and Aptitudes:

  • Demonstrate a strong interest and/or experience in environmental education
  • Enjoy working with children ages 6-12 of all abilities
  • Ability to make quick, responsible decisions and improvise when needed
  • Display a high level of patience and respond well under pressure
  • Comfortable speaking in front of large groups of people
  • Enthusiastic, creative, adaptable, patient, and able to work both independently and with a team
  • Able to communicate thoroughly, respectfully, and clearly with campers, parents, and other staff

Additional Requirements:

  • At least 18 years old
  • Ability to work outdoors under various weather conditions
  • Successful completion of a background check
WORK SCHEDULE AND COMPENSATION:
  • Mandatory Training Dates: May 26, 27 and 28, 2020 from 10:00 – 3:00pm
  • $12.00 an hour
  • Work Schedule: June 1 – July 31, 2020
  • Mondays – Fridays from 8:30am– 4:30pm or 8:45am to 5:15pm
