Austin Zoo is currently seeking a conscientious, energetic individual to join our Facilities team as a Facilities Technician. The ideal candidate would enjoy working outdoors, have attention to detail and be highly self-motivated as they strive to improve function and appearance of zoo facilities.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Perform proactive and preventative maintenance to improve function and appearance of zoo facilities
• Perform repairs as needed
• Mowing, raking and weeding specific areas of the zoo
• Help maintain water well system
• Fulfill zoo work orders in a timely fashion
• Stay organized and prioritize daily tasks while communicating timeline expectations.
• Interact with zoo guests and fellow zoo staff in a professional and appropriate manner
• Other tasks as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Must be able to pass basic background check
• Clean driving record
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends, occasional evenings and holidays.
• Ability to stay on task while working independently
• Good written and oral communication skills and be a cooperative team player.
• Ability to use power tools
• Previous experience with groundskeeping tasks and painting preferred.
Physical Requirements:
• In good health and capable of performing strenuous/heavy labor
• No history of allergies related to plants which might interfere with ability to work
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs. comfortably
• Must be able to walk or stand for extended periods of time
• Must be willing to work outside in any kind of weather
• The responsibilities of this position involve bending, crouching and kneeling. These are essential for a successful work experience.
